Finally on our way to AntarcticaToday at last the weather is on our side and the expedition team is being flown to Union Glacier on the Antarctic continent.

Snow a little looser today.”– Amundsen on this day 100 years ago (Read more …) For nearly two weeks we’ve been waiting for the weather at Union Glacier to stabilise enough to permit incoming flights. At long last we are on our way to board the aircraft that will take us there, and we are keeping our fingers crossed that the good flying weather will hold out. After all, we still have another flight ahead of us – to the Bay of Whales – before we can begin our actual expedition. The tips of our skis are quivering!
Did you know there were Norwegians living in Antarctica?At the Norwegian station Troll in Dronning Maud Land, as many as eight people spend the entire winter each year. The overwintering team is alone at the station for the eight long, dark months of winter. During this period, no planes fly to or from Troll. |
