New Nansen biographiesThis fall, Norwegian-speaking Nansen enthusiasts can enjoy two more biographies of the polar hero. In September, both Gyldendal and Cappelen Damm released new biographies of Fridtjof Nansen. Vogt’s book covers all aspects of Nansen’s life, whereas Jølle’s book is focused mainly on Nansen as a scientist.
Fridtjof Nansen. Mannen og verden (Fridtjof Nansen. The man and the world)
Reviews:
«Well-written and enthusiastic. [...] Vogt has said it all on 564 pages.»
Espen Søbye, Dagbladet
«Through his clear-sighted, analytical handling of the facts, Vogt creates interest in Nansen and his projects. The strength of this biography lies [...] in the convincing and well-grounded presentation of the story.»
Atle Christiansen, Aftenposten
«A solid and comprehensive biography of Fridtjof Nansen, in which his complicated personality is clearly evident.»
Sindre Hovdenakk, VG
Nansen. Oppdageren (Nansen. The discoverer)
Reviews:
«Jølle’s achievement as a historian and storyteller lies in showing that the skier, the discoverer and the scientist were all part of the same person, who could not have been any of these things without being all of them simultaneously. Jølle’s book is an important contribution to Norway’s recent history.»
Trond Berg Eriksen, Aftenposten
«Absorbingly presented, manages to delve into details without losing sight of the overall picture.»
Espen Søbye, Dagbladet
