Welcome to the Arctic

On these web pages, information can be found concerning the Arctic ecosystem and its natural environment. The information emerges in the light of the changes that are currently happening due to global warming. Where exactly is the Arctic, and what is it? Who lives in the Arctic, and how do these organisms work together? Which non-biological factors have an effect on life in the Arctic, and what changes could take place if these factors are altered?

The answers to these questions, and more, can be found here.

These web pages are the electronic version of and a supplement to the booklet "The Arctic System" by Ellen Elverland.

The main focus of the Arctic described here is the Norwegian Arctic outside of mainland Norway (the archipelago of Svalbard). However, most of the general descriptions apply to the circumpolar Arctic.
