The surrounding world - external constraints and working conditions

Zeppelinstasjonen ved Ny-Ă…lesund At Zeppelin Station for Atmospheric Research and Monitoring by Ny-Ă…lesund in Svalbard air currents are measured. It is an important tool for monitoring regional and global environmental problems. The station is situated 475 masl. Illustration: Tor Ivan Karlsen, NPI Large organisations like Arctic Ltd are controlled by external constraints, which they must take into account. These are the abiotic factors, pressures that are not biological but which nevertheless help to determine the way of life of the animals and plants in the region and the basis for their existence. In the Arctic, the external, natural constraints are the climate, ocean currents, light, sea ice, glaciers and bedrock, and the climate exerts great influence on how the other constraints function.
